A parte il periodo iniziale l'azienda mantenne un atteggiamento molto conservativo, seguendo con molto ritardo le tendenze stilistiche; inoltre la produzione di penne rimase sempre una attività marginale per la [[De La Rue]]. Nonostante questo le penne erano di prima qualità e sono tutt'ora molto ricercate ed apprezzate dai collezionisti.
