Le origini della ''Faber-Castell'' sono fatte risalire al [[1761]] quando ''Kaspar Faber'' iniziò la produzione di matite a Stein, un paesino situato nei pressi di Norimberga. L'attività venne sviluppata dal figlio Anton Wilhelm, che dette vita alla ''[[A. W. Faber]]'', e passò poi al figlio di questi. Il vero artefice del successo fu però il nipote ''Lothar von Faber'' che prese in mano una azienda in declino e con l'invenzione della moderna matita in legno, restata invariata fino ai nostri giorni, riportò al successo il marchio ''[[A. W. Faber]]''.
