La [[De La Rue]] è entrata nella storia della stilografica per la realizzazione nel 1905 della prima penna con caricamento a [[siringa rovesciata]], introducendo un sistema di caricamento automatico funzionale ed efficiente quando ancora tutte le altre marche, tranne la [[Conklin]], erano sostanzialmente legate all'uso del contagocce.  A parte il periodo iniziale l'azienda mantenne un atteggiamento molto conservativo, seguendo con molto ritardo le tendenze stilistiche; inoltre la produzione di penne rimase sempre una attività marginale per la [[De La Rue]]. Nonostante questo le penne erano di prima qualità e sono tutt'ora molto ricercate ed apprezzate dai collezionisti.
