Le [[The Carter Pen|prime penne]] a marchio [[Carter]], vennero lanciate con lo slogan ''You know the ink''. Queste erano modelli ''[[Flattop]]'' in ebanite, dotate della caratteristica clip a molla brevettata dalla [[De Witt-La France]], ottenuti presumibilmente dai materiali ereditati dalla [[Laughlin]].
