Le stilografiche ''Dunn'' erano tutte realizzate con questo particolare sistema di caricamento, che ne caratterizzava anche lo stile; il fondello della penna infatti, da usare come manopola per poter effettuare il caricamento della stessa utilizzando il sistema a pompa, era realizzato in plastica rossa (inizialmente in [[ebanite]], poi sostituita dalla [[caseina]], materiale più deperibile e di minor qualità), tanto da costituire un tratto distintivo della penna che in un altro slogan veniva descritta come ''"The fountain pen with the red pump handle"''.
