The [[JIF]] was founded by Jules Fagard in [[1926]] as semi-independent branch of the [[Waterman]] in France. In fact, at least from what emerges from the advertisements published on ''L'Illustration'' it seems that it was nevertheless an independent company able to perform its own production at least as regards the mechanical pencils, that even when matched with pens [[Waterman]] are called explicitly with the  ''Jif'' name.
