In questo caso si trattava di comprimere il serbatoio di gomma attraverso l'uso di un fiammifero (o di uno stuzzicadenti o altro attrezzo analogo) che andava a premere, attraverso un foro praticato sul fusto della penna, sulla barretta di compressione.
